    The next few months are crucial to Elon being the nr1 enemy of the US dems he is likely to lose Tesla after the shareholder vote early june. He already stated that he will than separate his IA / robotaxi and human robots from Tesla one way or the other. He already put most expansion of Tesla on hold pending this vote! Spacex is already financially more important to him than Tesla and his potential exit will make Spacex even more Important to him! So yes he is in a hurry a successful breakthrough of Starship will be the best consolation to him and he will need this before he starts the epic fight to take the IA and FSD activities separate from Tesla in order to keep control!

    Wil, I’m actually surprised they don't place a huge deployable inflatable balloon in the cargo bay. Why not? If they could keep Starship afloat and tow it back to shallow waters then recover it, I would imagine they'd learn quite a bit. Allowing it to sink means losing all that information. Just my thoughts. Thank you.

    It's not a mini space station! The volume inside the starship that is habitable is larger than the entire space station. You put two of these up and you have more room and space than ever before including all countries combined

    Of course Space X should try to land the Ship on the chopsticks. This will only be attempted if the Ship has a approach course within the error profile Space X has calculated. If the trajectory is outside the safe paramaters it will be blown up or guided to "land" safely in the Gulf.

    5:53 "Uh-vee-ree min-uh-mum-list-ic" - No! That is an ugly misuse of suffix, the term is *minimalist,* for it already describes a thin or being as "of or pertaining to minimal." Only you mouth-breathers double up on suffix, for you have no sense of depth in the the full value of each suffix, insisting on redundant emphasis which you can not see. It is a pain to hear your kind speak, it is unfortunate that 80% of the population speaks that way for that is how many mouth-breathers exist. Your kind will keep chaining suffix, to je degree of demised sense regarding exactly how versatile each suffix is. It's as if you can't sense their anatomy as living pulses of probability. That, to me, is quite daft.

    Instead of a hovercraft, what about a simple wooden pier on Boca Chica beach? Lots of public beaches have piers. The general public seems to like them. So then the end of the pier could be used for boats to ferry people to/from SPI and other places.

  • @tomdalton4016

    It will land where it took off. The tower is already being modified to catch it. Not really a risk as they will build an updated second tower . And rebuild the first one anyway.

  • @tomdalton4016
    @tomdalton4016 5 дней назад

    The orbital launch pad will be taken down and rebuilt . The second pad will be modified and built incorporating what they learned from the first pad. When they build the one at the cape that will be closer to the final design.

    Thanks for the video. Cool hat! I know I'm late to the comments but one thought about Artemis starship vs dear moon: for Artemis SpaceX not only needs the starship and the whole tanker logistics to be worked out, they also need to develop specific things for this program such as docking with the Orion capsule for crew transfer and development of the crew lift for use on the moon itself. They will probably also need to test land on the moon before going there with crew. If they would prioritize dear moon over these things then I would understand if Nasa were less than amused. So I think it is not only the admittedly very real question of prestige but also the question of priorities that may create some problem for dear moon for the next years...

    The recent animation they released shows booster coming in at an angle as opposed to mostly straight down, presumably allowing for a last moment divert into the Gulf. Of course something could go wrong when the catch is being made so it would still be putting the tower at risk.

    It just occurred to me that they have no room at Starbase to store all those starships they plan to produce there. They must be planning to launch them at Starbase and then land them someplace else for storage or they must be planning to ship them maybe even in modules. They don't have room for storage at Starbase. That is a fact I think we can all agree on.

    • @julianfp1952
      @julianfp1952 7 дней назад

      They can scrap them pretty quickly. SpaceX has already had quite a lot of practice in scrapping both boosters and ships. As long as Boca is purely doing R&D production then at least for a few years I suspect the design will still be evolving so quickly that once something has flown it will be obsolete so maybe after removing the Raptors if they want to reuse those and perhaps doing some close examination - x-raying welds, testing for metal fatigue in key areas etc - they probably will ultimately scrap a lot of the Star Factory output at least for the next few years. Since re-usability is a key design requirement I don't doubt that some prototypes will do multiple flights but for a lot of them I suspect it will be a case of one (flight) and done.

    Its a terrible idea to catch the booster until you have a backup launch tower

    • @julianfp1952
      @julianfp1952 7 дней назад

      And if SpaceX is determined to do this it's an even more terrible idea to do as Elon said and attempt it on IFT-5 after only a single successful virtual catch over the sea (IFT-4 we hope). Surely if SpaceX does absolutely need to demonstrate a successful catch before the second tower is ready it should at least want to get 2 or 3 successful at-sea tests under its belt to increase the confidence that an actual catch back at Boca is going to work out as planned. With stuff like the final stage of on-orbit fuel transfers now explicitly shown on NASA documents to not be happening until 2025 and hopefully the launch cadence of IFT flights getting up to one every 2 months I really can't see that doing the first live catch in August (my rough guess for when IFT-5 might be) or in December (my rough guess for IFT-7) is going to make any difference whatsoever to the overall project timeline - Artemis or otherwise - so why take the extra risk?

    Whether it is worth the risk depends on how the virtual landing in the ocean goes. As long as the booster slows itself properly so it approaches slowly, the odds of the booster damaging the tower so much that they couldn't fix it by IFT-6 seems minimal.
